AI Is Making It Easier to Build Alone. Should You?
AI is changing the economics of starting a business. One person can now do things that previously required a team. Write. Design. Research. Code. Analyse. Market. Automate. It's incredible. And I think it will create a generation of businesses that look completely different from the ones we have
But there's an interesting question underneath all of that:
If AI makes it easier to build alone, should you?
Because doing more things yourself isn't necessarily the same as building better.
You can have an AI write the strategy. Another one analyse the market. Another one build the website. Another one write the code.
And suddenly you've got a very efficient way of being completely alone.
Maybe that's not the future we should be aiming for.
I don't think the answer is to resist AI. Quite the opposite. AI is going to give founders an incredible amount of leverage, and I think we should embrace that.
But leverage isn't the same as wisdom.
AI can help you write the plan. It can't necessarily tell you whether you're building the wrong business.
It can analyse your numbers. It can't know that you've been avoiding a difficult decision for six months.
It can give you ten answers. It can't necessarily know which one matters to you.
And it doesn't replace having someone who knows you well enough to say, “I don't think you're thinking clearly.”
Or, “That's a terrible idea.”
Or, “You've been working too much.”
Or simply, “Tell me what you're actually worried about.”
That's the human layer.
And I think the future might not be Human versus AI.
It might be:
Human → AI → Human.
Use AI to make yourself more capable.
Then use people to make yourself wiser.
Because perhaps the most valuable thing AI can give a founder isn't another reason to work alone.
It's more capacity to spend time with the people who matter.
